As one of the oldest towns in northwest Illinois, we are proud of our history. We have grown from our start in 1828 with a few cabins supporting river steamboats, to soon after becoming a booming railroad town, hosting one of the Midwest’s largest rail switching yards. Today, we are proud to be home to one of the most beautiful Mississippi Riverfronts for miles around. The city hosts many great attractions including the trailhead of the Great River Road Bike Trail, the Mississippi Palisades State Park and our historical Main Streets of 1880s era buildings. You can often find live outdoor music, unique eateries and quaint small town businesses available for perusing all summer long and beyond.
So bring your boats, your bikes, your camping gear, your fury pets and don't forget your friends and family! Savanna, IL is a great small town for unique adventure and experiences unlike anything you can find elsewhere.
