Boating

Access to the Mississippi River is plentiful in and around Savanna.

There are three boat launching facilities within Savanna’s city limits, one at each end of Marquette Park and more ramps at the Savanna Marina. The boat ramps at Marquette Park are both free and the upper parking lot provides plenty of parking for trailers. The Savanna Marina is operated by the Savanna Park District and offers a variety of recreational activities.

There is also a boat launch facility at Miller’s Hollow, a free launch located across the from the north entrance of the Mississippi Palisades State Park. The U.S. Corps of Engineers runs the free launch at Big Slough Recreation Area, located south of Savanna at 5999 Riverview Road.

Illinois resident must follow the rules and regulations set forth by the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources. Click here for the the handbook of Boating Laws and Responsibilities.

You can learn more about the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge and should become familiar with the Rules and Regulations before heading out on the river.
